Interface - overview

To be able to work with the Dynamics NAV you need to know the interface components. In this article, we will have a look at the user interface.
First part of the article describes key elements: the ribbon and the navigation pane. In the next part of the article we will look at the two most commonly used page types, so the list page and the card page. At the end of the article, you can read about the application menu.

The Ribbon

One of the most important components in the user interface is the ribbon.  All actions and functions are available from the ribbon.  Most users know the ribbon from other well-known programs, eg. Microsoft Office.  Working with a ribbon is very intuitive.

The ribbon structure is shown below. One of the tabs is „ACTIONS”.  In „ACTIONS”, we have a group „manage”. And within the group, we have a number of actions.

For example, on Chart of Accounts view we have home, actions, navigate, and report.  So within each tab, we have a number of groups and in groups, we have actions. This structure is in both web client and the Windows client.

The Navigation Pane

The Navigation Pane is located on the left side of the window application.  Navigation Pane both is in the both web client and the Windows client.
Navigation pane have „Home,  and then numer of additional menus likes „Posted Documents”, „Approvals”, „Administration”, „Departments”. In the example we use Accountant Role. And all additional menus are Focus on this specific role.

For example, if I click on „Posted Documents” I can see „Posted Sales Shipments”, „Posted Sales Invoices” and so on.

Using Navigation Pane we can access any page, any report, any function available in the system.  You can see below how using Navigation pane, we can access to the specific warehouse function.

The Status Bar

This is the bar at the bottom of application window.  We don't have a status bar in the web client.
Status Bar is used for switch from one to the other company or to enter a new work date. You also see the user account working currently in the system.
On the screenshot presented below the Status Bar is marked with a red frame.

Pages

Pages is the main element of the user interface.  We use pages to display information but also to enter new information or to modify existing data. The two most important types of Pages: List Page and Card Page are described in detail below.

1) List Page

1. - The Ribbon
2 - Filter Pane
3 - List
